Do You Have a Secret Superpower?

“If we did all the things we were capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.”

~ Thomas Edison

A while back, whilst looking at the Google Analytics traffic data for our website, we noticed that one of the first blog entries we ever posted, way back in early 2019 – part 4 of a series on developing a coaching strategy for high-potential employees – was getting a significantly higher number of hits relative to the rest of the pages on our site. After a bit of research, we discovered that if you google the phrase “External Coaching for High Potential Employees” – which apparently a lot of people do – we not only show up on the first page in that search, we are typically the very first non-sponsored entry of approximately 18 million hits, above articles from the likes of the International Coaching Federation, SHRM, Forbes, and HBR. Seriously?

This is remarkable, not only because of the relative size of our organization compared to the others on the list but also because we have never made any attempt whatsoever to promote ourselves on Google. Companies typically invest many thousands of dollars each year to try and appear on the first page in a Google search, working with SEO specialists, marketing gurus, and more than a few snake-oil salespeople, to occupy that hallowed piece of virtual real estate. We’re there entirely by accident!

We’re not telling you this to brag (well, maybe just a bit). NO! We’re telling you this because it’s a great example of hidden strength – something we were almost completely blind to until it was revealed to us by some external agent. We all have hidden strengths, and until we become aware of them, we’re highly unlikely to be leveraging them effectively, if at all. It’s like having a secret superpower and still taking the train to the office when you could actually fly (back when people did that, of course).

If you don’t think you have a superpower, you’re wrong. You just don’t know it yet. The problem is we often discount our own superpowers because we assume everyone can do that. They can’t, and discovering what yours is will be transformational. So, if you want some help, give us a call. Or…Google us?
